Which robot mower fits my lawn?

Work it out for your lawn
Worked example
For a 450 m² garden in 2 zones joined by a 0.9 m side passage, a steepest slope of 25%, some trees near the edge and no boundary wire wanted:
- Navigation that suits it: Camera vision, LiDAR, Hybrid.
- Look for a model rated for at least 540 m² (your lawn plus our 20% headroom), at least 25% slope, multi-zone support and a body narrower than 0.9 m.
- Matching UK models appear here as each one is checked against the manufacturer's UK page.

Most buying guides list a handful of models. This chooser starts from your garden instead: its size, its zones, its steepest slope, its narrowest passage and what's around it. It then shows which navigation tech suits it, and which UK models have manufacturer ratings that cover it.
How it works
- Navigation. Your answers about trees, buildings, edges and boundary wire go through our rule of thumb for each tech's published limits. It's a guide, not a guarantee, and we say so on the result.
- Area, with headroom. A manufacturer's rated area is usually for ideal conditions: a flat, open, simple lawn. We look for models rated for at least a fifth more than your lawn, and show the near misses separately.
- Slope, zones and passages. A model must be rated for your steepest slope. If you have more than one lawn it must support several zones, and if it has to fit through a passage its published width must fit.
- Order. Matches are sorted by rated area, smallest that covers your lawn first, so you're not shown a bigger, dearer machine than you need.
Every spec comes from the manufacturer's official UK page, with the date we checked it. A spec without a source isn't used.
FAQs
Why add headroom to the rated area?
Rated areas assume good conditions. Slopes, narrow strips, trees and several zones all slow a mower down, so a model rated right at your lawn size may struggle to keep up in the growing season.
Why doesn't the chooser pick one model for me?
Because the right model depends on your garden. We filter by the manufacturer's ratings and say exactly how we sort the list. We don't score mowers or pick winners.
Can it rate a mower for wildlife?
No. We never rate wildlife safety ourselves. Whatever you choose, run it in daylight only, and see our guide to robot mowers and hedgehogs for what the published research found.
